Growing facts for Deer-Antlered Bulbophyllum Orchids

Keep plant in cool to warm temperatures. Keep moist in summer seasons and do not allow mix to dry, in winter keep the mix slight dry and reduce watering. Keep good air movement to avoid fungal growth. Keep plants in shade. Pot plants in sphagnum moss, fine bark, or mounted. BULBOPHYLLUM LIGHT: Many of these are low-light requirement plants, but the rule of thumb is, the wider the leaves, the less light they will require. TEMPERATURE: Most of the plants will grow best when given warm to intermediate conditions, with temperatures running from 55 to 95 degrees. WATER: If they are mounted, they can take a watering twice a day. If potted, every 3-4 days with a slight drying out between watering. HUMIDITY: anything from 60 to 100 percent will be perfect. FERTILIZER: Use a balanced fertilizer twice a month. REPOTTING: If they are in pots, use a larger, shallow pot and fine seedling bark mixed with perlite and amended with about 10% peat.

Base Price: $19.95
Common Name Lobb's Bulbophyllum
Flower Size 3-4" Across [7.5 to 10 cm]
This unifoliate, small to medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphytic species is from Borneo, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines at altitudes of 200 to 2000 meters in lowland and montane forests on trunks and main branches of trees and has well spaced pseudobulbs with a persistent sheath that split into yellow fibers and carries a single, apical, leathery leaf that blooms in the summer on an erect, to 6" [15 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence that arises from a node on the rhizome. The large, fragrant, single flower arising on each new pseudobulb is held at mid leaf.
This species is a hot to warm growing orchid and will do best mounted or in a pot with a well draining medium and regular water and fertilizer but have caution. As the new pseudobulbs develop, fungus can easily occur from overwatering.  Our sale plants are usually in 2- 3.5 inch pots.  For the divisions in this plant, you would receive a single bulb with any pups attached.
