We grow, sell, and ship, from some of the finest Ferns in the industry all in the beautiful USA. We ship quickly through USPS Priority Mail.

Plants are shipped out on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and sometimes on Saturdays....Most plants will be sent bare root wrapped in wet sphagnum moss and a plastic bag wrapped in tape for security, and sent via USPS Priority Mail. When plants arrive be sure and soak in water overnight and then plant. I take great care in wrapping plants to assure they arrive safely, but sometimes the Post Office gets careless and damages the package(See “Damage” under shipping) I only ship plants to lower 48 states, Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. Protectorates, and APO/FPO address no international shipping at this time, but am working on same on a country by country basis, so email me with any requests! If there are any certificates or special shipping costs above and beyond what normally occurs in my regular shipping to the lower 48 states...buyer is responsible to tell me and pay any additional costs incurred. Please immediately email or call me upon arrival of shipment, for any problems that you think might have occurred. John Talbott

SENSITIVE FERN-Onoclea sensibilis Zone 4-8

Species Native to Missouri

Common Name: sensitive fern

Type: Fern

Family: Dryopteridaceae

Zone: 4 to 8

Height: 3.00 to 4.00 feet

Spread: 3.00 to 4.00 feet

Bloom Time: Non-flowering

Bloom Description: Non-flowering

Sun: Part shade to full shade

Water: Medium to wet

Suggested Use: Naturalize, Rain Garden

Tolerate: Rabbit, Heavy Shade, Clay Soil

Best grown in organically rich, medium moisture, well-drained soil in part shade to full shade. Needs consistent moisture. Although native to swampy and marshy areas, it grows quite well in average garden soil as long as soil is not allowed to dry out. Usually grows taller in wet soils which it tolerates well. Spreads by both creeping rhizomes and spores, and can be somewhat aggressive in optimum growing conditions.

Sensitive fern is a large, somewhat coarse, Missouri native, deciduous fern which occurs statewide in wet woods and thickets and in moist soils along streams and springs. Grows up to 4' tall. Features long-stalked, deeply pinnatifid, bright green, vegetative (sterile) fronds (2-4' long) with leathery, triangular leaflets (pinnae) which have distinctively netted veins. Shorter, erect, woody-like fertile fronds (to 12" tall), whose ultimate divisions are bead-like segments, typically brown up in late summer and persist throughout the remaining season and winter. Commonly called sensitive fern because the green vegetative fronds are sensitive to and suffer almost immediate damage from the first fall frost. Also sensitive to drought.

Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis): This coarse-textured, deciduous fern grows 24 to 30 inches tall. Grow in light to full shade. Sensitive fern prefers constant moisture but can stand some drought. It is native throughout South Carolina. Edge division.

Walking fern, fern that is a member either of the species Asplenium rhizophyllum, of eastern North America, or of A. sibiricum, of eastern Asia, in the family Aspleniaceae. The plant’s leaves are evergreen, undivided, and slightly leathery; they are triangular in shape, tapering to a thin point. Spore-bearing structures are in clusters along the veins. Walking ferns are hardy plants that inhabit shady areas of limestone ledges and limey wooded areas.
