Nagami Tart Kumquat-Fortunella crassifolia Nagami Zone: 8a

We grow and sell these in 5&7-Gal at various times of the year.

· Sweet/Sour Kumquats are distinguished by their more rounded oval shape and their level of Sweetness/Sourness
  • Nagami have a sweet rind and sour "flesh", I love the taste.
  • We now have Meiwa Kumquat, which is very sweet, and Nagami Kumquat which is more problematic than Meiwa.
  • Both Kumquats are fruits that you can eat off the tree, but only 1-2 at a setting.
  • Both over produce and if you leave them on the tree for extended lengths of time they develop off-tastes.
  • They are pretty as ornamentals and comparatively low maintenance for citrus.
  • More cold-hardy and pest-resistant than other citrus varieties.
  • · Compact small growing tree ideal for container plantings or short hedges
  • · Height 10-12 feet in the ground
  • · Self fertile with fruit ripening in Oct-Ded.
  • · Kumquats are entirely edible, rind, flesh, and occasional soft seeds
  • · Skin is thick smooth oily peel with aromatic fragrances and sweet flavor
  • · Flesh is not overly juicy and more tart than Meiwa
  • · Only by eating both the skin and flesh will its perfect sweet-tart flavor balance be experienced
  • · Average size of a kumquat is about one inch in diameter
  • · Zone 8a after established (10-15 degrees F)
We sell all Citrus, orange trees, lemon trees, lime trees, and grapefruit trees. Since January of 2018 we only sell Citrus in 5 gallon pots, but we designate 5 gal and 7 gal sizes so that the 7gal size designates older larger trees with calipers of the trunk over 3/8 inch or larger and the smaller trees as only 1/4 inch caliper and smaller. The 7 gal trees are not much taller, but are bushier and as mentioned a larger in caliper in trunk size.
